Craig “Crowie” Alexander wins Kona on Specialized Shiv with a course record
Riding the brand-new Shiv, Crowie improves his bike split by a whopping 13 minutes
Thirteen minutes and 14 seconds. That is the gigantic difference by which Craig “Crowie” Alexander improved his bike split over previous years at the Ironman World Championships, which he won for the third time Saturday with a new course record of 8:03:56.
Crowie rode the new Specialized Shiv, a bike designed from the ground up exclusively for triathlon. As befits a three-discipline sport, the Shiv features three advantages over other bikes: unmatched aerodynamics, an integrated hydration solution and extensive options to ensure the perfect fit.
For Crowie, the math was simple. Aero + fuel + fit = 13 minutes.
“That bike is a rocket ship,” Crowie said of the Shiv. “A total rocket ship.”
At the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championships, Crowie emerged from the water with the lead group. Over the 112-mile course along the coast, Crowie crushed it on his Shiv.
Crowie came in fourth off the bike, with a time of 4:24:05. In years past, his best bike times were 4:37:19 and 4:37:33.
Crowie left the transition in third, behind Chris Lieto and Luke McKenzie. Still fresh from his time on the bike, Crowie blew through the two leaders on the run and never looked back.
He secured his third Kona title with a time of 8:03:56, smashing a course record that had stood since 1996.
“Crowie is one of the most consistent athletes here,” said Mark Cote, Specialized’s Road Product Manager and Aerodynamicist from MIT. “His bike times have always been between 4:37 and 4:39. So to have a 13-minute improvement because of the changes we made… it makes me believe in science.”

During your ride, Edge 500 measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for your review. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge 500 also incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation.
All Edge 500 versions work with third-party ANT+-enabled power meters to display your power output in watts as you ride. This valuable data shows you how hard you're working, regardless of conditions affecting your ride, so you can train smarter. Some versions also ship with a digital heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor.
Other helpful training features include a Courses feature, which helps you compare successive rides over the same route, as well as Auto Pause, Auto Lap and temperature readings. Edge also alerts you if you’re moving, but the timer is not running.
Track Your Heart Rate
When paired with a Garmin heart rate monitor, Edge 500 tracks heart beats per minute and uses your heart rate for advanced calorie computation, so you know how many calories you're burning. Train in a certain heart-rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance over the same ride.
Analyze Your Ride
Once your ride’s done, connect Edge 500 to your computer with the included USB cable to analyze your performance. With a simple click, you can join a worldwide network of cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts through Garmin Connect™, a one-stop site for data analysis and sharing.

The new Smart ENVE System 6.7 is specifically designed for the performance driven Triathlete and Road Racer. The 6.7s have proven time and again to be the fastest, most stable, wheelset available when installed on a bike in comparison to wheels of similar stature. Having been available for only a few months, the 6.7s are rapidly forging a presence on triathlon and road race podiums around the globe. In May 2011, Timo Bracht in his first race aboard the svelte 6.7, broke one of the longest standing Ironman records in Lanzarote, Spain. We believe that this is just the beginning of many records that will fall to the quiet 6.7s.
THE EVOLUTION OF SPEED. INTRODUCING THE SMART ENVE SYSTEM.
The recipe for a fast wheel is no one single element; rather, it’s a combination of factors. When you start with in-frame development and blend proven aerodynamics, optimized stability, lightweight, stiffness and durability, the result is a revolutionary wheel design. Introducing the Smart ENVE System.
SPEED
The Smart ENVE System optimizes the interface between the frame surfaces and the wheels, creating an integrated system. The front and rear wheels interact differently with the air and the rest of the bicycle. Rim shapes are optimized to allow airflow to stay attached at higher yaw angles, thus reducing drag and improving ride performance.
The front wheel is wider and shallower to improve stability and reduce drag in any wind condition.
The rear wheel is deeper to reduce drag where stability is less affected.
Wheels were tested on multiple frame designs in order to produce the maximum drag reduction. The result is a wheel system, which handles predictably, and displays superior drag results when installed in multiple bicycle frame designs.
STABILITY
Steering feedback in variable conditions needs to be predictable to have total handling confidence. Less predictable wheels have a non-linear steering response, resulting in erratic and unpredictable handling in unsteady conditions. The shape of the Smart ENVE System rim is optimized to ensure even and predictable airflow attachment. What the rider experiences is a balanced build up of side force as the angle of crosswind changes. This allows the rider to accurately predict the handling mannerisms of the wheel and avoid dangerous over correction cycles.
The focus on steering stability resulted in improved handling and confidence in varying crosswinds.
Therefore, the wheel shape was optimized to produce a predictable and linear response.
The target stability gradient was 1.0.

We took the idea of “adapt and conquer” to the extreme. Oakley Fast Jacket™ XL is a performance product with a unique interchangeable lens design that lets you match your optics to your environment. Switching out the lenses is fast and easy, thanks to Switchlock™ Technology. It’s an innovation that locks the lenses in place with a quick release system. With Switchlock, the lenses are securely suspended without any stresses that could alter the optics, so you’ll have premium clarity with true, accurate vision. We shaped stainless steel with metal injection molding to create a convenient button that releases each lens. That means minimal handling and no hassle. Just put in a new lens set and go.
Between sunrise and sunset, there’s a whole spectrum of possibility, but you can’t take advantage of it unless your vision can adapt. If the sun pulls a disappearing act or busts its way through the clouds, just swap out the lenses with a different set. The advantages don’t stop there. Pro athletes know it takes the right combination of light filtering, glare blocking, visual contrast and color balance to help them perform at their best, and it varies from sport to sport and place to place. With Fast Jacket™ XL, they have the power to adapt their vision quickly and give themselves every possible advantage.
Oakley Fast Jacket™ XL comes with the unbeatable technologies you expect from a world leader in performance innovation. Each frame comes with a Nano-Clear Hydrophobic mini-pen that lets you apply a special coating, an invisible shield that makes water bead up and roll off the lenses instead of leaving a sheen that can corrupt your vision. Impact protection meets ANSI Z87.1 standards while clarity and optical precision exceed them. We achieve it all with the unrivaled technologies of High Definition Optics® (HDO®), including patented XYZ Optics® that maintains clarity at every angle of view. We use the most optically pure lens material in the industry, Plutonite®. It has the added advantage of filtering out every baking ray of ultraviolet light including UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm.
Fast Jacket™ XL has open-edge lens architecture to give you an advantage when looking through the downward view. We made the frame out of comfortably lightweight O Matter®, a durable material that withstands the punishment of pro sports. Each frame comes with two sizes of interchangeable nosepads to help you get a precise fit. Like the earstem sleeves, they are made of Oakley Unobtainium® that increases grip when you perspire. A Three-Point Fit keeps the optics precisely aligned while maximizing comfort by eliminating the pressure points that come with ordinary frames that hook your ears.
Oakley Fast Jacket™ XL comes with two sets of interchangeable lenses. We formulated one set for bright sun and engineered the other for lower light, so you’ll be ready for a wide range of environments. It all stows conveniently in the included case. When you’re ready to hone-in on the best optics for your particular sport or application, take a look at the optional lens sets made for this premium performance sunglass.
Need prescription lenses? No worries there. We make Oakley Authentic Prescription Lenses that work perfectly with the Switchlock™ system of Fast Jacket™ XL, and you can choose from a wide array of lens options.

After what seemed like it would take forever but in reality only took 4 weeks, the renovations in the shop are complete, a few small variations and things still to happen, but we are set to go!
A great night was had by all with the unveiling of the new store design, comments ranging from - Wow, to I can't believe this is the same place, it looks so much bigger. There wasn't a bad word to be said. Who could blame them the Retail services team at Specialized Australia did an absolutely fantastic job of concept & design. The store layout is fantastic maximising our limited space and diverse clientele mix of family & kids bikes all the way through to S-Works central. Almost every product category gets a share of space.
A designated BG Fit area with motorised drop down blinds to screen some privacy away for customers that request.
S-Works Frame selection wall, every size & or colour gets a hands on area, so it makes it easier for you to examine that custom build you have been dreaming of
The fun kids bike wall, a way to check out the colours and sizes without having to drag out a few bikes to see what will be suitable for that special child in your life.
A Body Geometry Saddle wall, where we can help choose a saddle based on your Sit bone measurements.
Different Widths for Different Riders:
No two pairs of sit bones are the same. Skinnier saddles don't necessarily work best for smaller riders, wider Saddles for larger riders, and so on. Even the difference in sit bone width when riding in an upright or aero position is significant. There's simply no accurate way to pick the best sized saddle for someone's body-meaning the one that will keep you riding longer in more comfort-besides accurately measuring the distance between a rider's sit bones (ischial tuberosities) and its relation to their positioning.
Specialized's Body Geometry Saddle Fit System measure actual sit bone width, then you the rider with the help from the Hampton Cycles team can determine which width saddle and style to choose (all the model's we stock have multiple sizes available). No more blind choices. No more dealing with uncomfortable, poor fitting saddles. Different riders have different width sit bones. Body Geometry multi-width saddles optimize performance, fit and comfort.
We also have a Test Saddle program whereby you can test the Specialized saddles for a few days with no obligations to ensure that the saddle you buy is something that you will like.
Our Showcase S-Works wall, with the latest and greatest the big "S" produces.
